Tags (also known as Taxonomy) are like keywords. You can describe your content with those keywords, and by doing that it will allow you to find all the content that belongs to a certain term or a set of terms with great ease. The way you categorize your content by having different vocabularies and having different terms on those vocabularies. Let's say you would like to tag a certain button shirt. A shirt can have different attributes that describe her. It can be described as "It's for men"; "It's fabrics are cotton and denim"; "The fabric provider that sold it to me is called simple Fabrics."

Let's take the above example and use it to define our vocabularies and terms. "It's form men" - we probably need to define a gender, so we'll have a vocabulary that accepts only a single value:

  • Gender <-- This is a vocabulary
    • Man <-- This is a term
    • Woman
    • Unisex

Now you can choose man Or woman Or unisex. Now to the fabrics - the vocabulary will be fabrics, but this time will be to define it as multiple select:

  • Fabrics
    • Cotton
    • Lycra
    • Denim
    • Linen

Last one is the fabric provider. Maybe this time you want to make sure you won't forget to enter the information so you will mark it's as required. One of the advantages of the tags system is that you don't need to define all your vocabularies and terms before doing anything else. You may add, edit and delete them a long the way, according to your needs.

If the term was already used in the past an auto-complete appear allowing you to select it. Note that when you wish to enter a term that is consisted of multiple words use quotes like "woman petite", this will register as a single term as opposed to two separate tags (womand and petite). In terms of 'best-practice', in most cases you will not use this option, but define your terms manually.
